The Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado Adventure June 2020

The second I heard that the National Parks were opening up camping reservation at the Sand Dunes, I hopped on the computer to book a site.

For those of you who don't know where to find the reservation system: https://www.recreation.gov/ I was lucky enough to find a spot for one night in early June of 2020. The pandemic had killed all of our plans for the year.

So I was pulling at strings to make life more fun during these

times for my girls. So to the dunes we went!

We got stuck in "Traffic" There was a cattle drive going down the road.

We all "MOOOOOD" at the cows

After driving down hwy 285 threw Salida, we kept heading south.

From our house to the Dunes is about 5 hours.

We arrived just after 3pm and started unloading and setting up camp.

Once we were set up, we headed out to the dunes and the Medano Creek https://www.nps.gov/grsa/planyourvisit/medano-creek.htm

It only happens once a year, and we caught the spring run off.

The sunshine faded once we hit the water, but we made the best of it.

As the sun came out we headed for the warm sand. There is something mesmerising about doing cartwheels down sand dunes.

After several hours of being sandblasted and enjoying the dunes, we were gifted with one of the most amazing sunsets I have ever seen. Every direction I looked offered a photo opportunity,

When I saw this adorable couple putting lights up around their tent,

I almost burst with excitement!

I knew the picture I was going to take when the sun set.

Put the Sand Dunes on your bucket list to visit!
